Darkness and Light

I always feel a little bit sad after Christmas. Maybe because it is the darkest time of the year, or maybe because all the parties are over and all the nice Christmas lights in the streets and parks have gone. It may also be the uncertainty of what the coming year will bring and having the time to actually think about that.

To bring some more light into our apartment I made these lights I saw in the lovely Gifted Magazine. The photo doesn’t really do them justice. They are so sparkly! The secret of their shine is that the candles sit on rock salt, which beautifully reflects the light. I made these two so far and they really light up everything.

  1. I think they’re beautiful! Where does one find rock salt?

I always get sad after the holidays, too. For me it’s because there’s so much preparation and excitement leading up to the holidays, and then they’re over…too quickly. Kind of reminds me of weddings. :)

    • Thank you. If you don’t find rock salt, you can use any coarse or large grain salt instead.
